Sir Thomas Smythe’s Charity

Charities Programme

The Sir Thomas Smythe Charities Programme provides grants to local welfare organisations that work with people who are vulnerable, isolated, and in financial need. Funding is available for work with certain priority groups, and in specific areas of West Kent.

We can consider grants for either capital items (e.g. equipment) or core running costs, providing they can be demonstrated to make a clear and significant contribution to your organisation.

One-off and multi-year grants are available, generally not exceeding £1,000 per annum and for a maximum of 4 years.  The maximum total award possible is £4,000.

Funding Criteria

We can consider you for funding if you are a registered charity or not-for-profit organisation and working in one of our eligible areas, as defined on the Smythe charity homepage. Grants are available if your work is supporting one or more of the following groups:

  • Older people
  • Disadvantaged people
  • People with disabilities
  • Victims of domestic violence
  • Those in recovery from substance misuse
  • Those living with mental health challenges

We Don’t Fund

  • Organisations with an annual income of over £1,000,000
  • Individuals
