Case Studies:

IC has a history of rough sleeping and has been in and out of prison for the past 6 years.  He also has a history of substance abuse and mental health issues.  His conditions are being managed and he is now taking the next step into independent living.  He was awarded a grant of £165 for a microwave and vacuum cleaner.  Upon receiving the grant his support worker said: "These items will allow IC to live more independently, supporting his ability to cook and eat regularly while also improving hygiene in his flat by having a hoover"

YR was a victim of domestic violence whilst pregnant with her daughter, and fled to a hostel.  Her daughter also has developmental delays and complex communication difficulties.  YR and her young daughter were allocated their own property which was unfurnished.  They were awarded a grant of £279.99 for a fridge/freezer.  Upon receiving the grant their support worker said: "YR was unable to store any fresh or frozen foods as she did not have access to a fridge/freezer which meant she had to purchase dry processed food.  Her daughter has specific dietary needs which meant mum could only provide takeaway potato dishes and cereal bars until the fridge freezer was delivered. Mum's emotional well being has improved, she is very pleased with the fridge freezer which is an essential piece of equipment she now has for herself and her daughter"

NM, is a young mother with three dependant age children and suffers from significant mental health, and displays chaotic behaviour.  During the winter they were unable to afford to heat their home and the situation got so bad, they presented themselves to a local destitution centre.  The family now are being closely supported to improve their wellbeing and outcomes.  NM's washing machine unfortunately broke down and she was unable to afford a replacement.  A grant of £294.98 was awarded for a replacement family size washing machine.  Upon receiving the grant her support worker said: "The previous machine was overflowing.  Since the arrival of the new machine, the children and mum are able to wear clean, freshly washed clothes.  This has made a huge impact - the older children feel included by their peers and teaching staff alike. A heartfelt thank you from mum to convey to you on her behalf"
