299 Squadron Royal Signals

299

The British Army's Special Communications (SC) unit provides Independent Communication Support (ICS) command support to specified Other Government Departments (OGD) in the UK and worldwide, and facilitates the collection and dissemination of national information, as directed by Commander 2 Signals Brigade.

The Squadron employs Royal Signals soldiers both in trade and as Special Communications Operators. The SC Operator role involves soldiers working in support of specified OGDs in the UK and overseas in a wide variety of unique and challenging roles. Deployments are often at short notice and usually involve deploying alone or in small teams. There are also a number of secondments to specialist training and equipment development teams based throughout the UK.  Formerly part of 39 (Skinners) Signals Regiment, the unit re-affiliated with the Skinners' Company in 2012.
