Ian, from Cheshire, contacted the Charity requesting financial support to study a City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma in Brickwork.
At the age of 24 Ian found himself having only worked for a year since leaving school. He put his lack of GCSE results at school down to poor attendance as he was needed at home to help with his mum who was suffering from depression and panic attacks.
Not only did Ian receive a grant of £800 to help with travel and other costs over the remaining two terms of his course, but as a result of finding an organisation that was willing to help he received the encouragement and pastoral support to continue.
Ian has successfully passed his City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma, and can swap his red trainee CSCS card for a blue Skilled Worker card.
“I really can’t believe it myself, this means I am now a fully qualified builder/bricklayer. I’m so pleased as it’s what I’ve always wanted to do. I have now gained employment as a fully qualified bricklayer on a long-term contract, building a new social housing estate. I am really enjoying the work. Thanks so much for all the help and support you gave me. I couldn’t have managed to complete my second year without it. I really am so grateful!”
